Top Victorian Architect in South Battersea

No. 69-79 Nightingale Lane

Arguably, this terracotta clad row of houses on Nightingale Lane, are some of the prettiest in Battersea (No.69-79). They were built in 1879 and feature extensive decorations both on its front and at the rear of the buildings. The row consists of three pairs of semi-detached houses, three floors in height with basements. The terracotta detailing is in the French Renaissance style, clad over red brick work. These can be appreciated in the ground floor bay windows and the Flemish style gables topping the lateral bays. The roofs are just as impressive, high pitched with massive brick chimneys.

The surrounding area is peppered by clusters of beautiful houses designed by speculator/builders, but these were the work by a notable Victorian architect: Thomas Edward Collcutt. See below some of his most renowned designs.
